Beth L. Murphy, MD, PhD
Beth L. Murphy, MD, PhD, is co-medical director of the LEADER (Law Enforcement, Active Duty, Emergency Responder) Outpatient Clinic’s Mood, Anxiety, Stress, and Trauma Track. Within the clinic, she is responsible for the oversight of the policies and procedures of the clinic and is committed to ensuring that first responders are provided with culturally-appropriate and trauma-informed care. Her area of expertise within the LEADER clinic is diagnostic assessment, as well as medication consultation and management.
Dr. Murphy engages in research at McLean with Kerry J. Ressler, MD, PhD, and Milissa Kaufman, MD, PhD and their labs. Her clinical research seeks to better understand and treat post-traumatic stress disorders. Additionally, she participates in studies within the LEADER clinic that examine barriers to treatment and the presentation of mood disorders in first responder populations. At McLean, she also serves as a champion for the benefits of animal-assisted therapy and participates in the training of psychiatry residents, research assistants, and post-doctoral researchers.
